Speaking the Language in Spain

As the English speaking expat community in Spain continues to grow, so too does the prevalence of English. However, this may be limited mainly to tourist areas and resorts, so do try to learn some Spanish. Not only is it incredibly useful when dealing with officials, it will also help you make the most of being in Spain.
Here are a few points to consider:

- Even basic Spanish is helpful in daily life - finding a flat, getting the telephone/electricity connected, dealing with government departments, etc.

- Try to use the means already at your disposal - Spanish media (TV/radio/newspapers), speaking to your neighbours and so on. Don't be shy!

Consider a language course - there are many options, from online learning, books and tapes to university language programmes and dedicated language schools with intensive courses

- Learning a new language is a challenge, but it will pay dividends
